Finally, disability services office has been established to help Aboriginal people with disabilities in the NT. Adapted from the name of the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph, JMJ is inspired from exemplary charity. It aims to provide proper services & promote the rights of disabled people especially in the Aboriginal community in the NT. JMJ Disability Services began as a dream of its founder Maria Gumban to help PWD’s have a happy, well-lived life. Most of their patients come from the Aboriginal community. “The beauty here is that the NT has many community groups that help people who need access to the NDIS. Around 75% are aboriginal people accessing NDIS.” In this job, they learn lot in addition to the culture and lifestyle of indigenous people. Promoting the rights of PWD’s has become a major part of their lives. Earvin Alinsug is one of 75 employees here and is the training and Development Officer. “I tried to internalize my work capacity that I wish I could work in a role that not only paves the way for corporate success and but allows me to use my skills to make a difference.” Disability support work is not always easy.
