JMJ SUPPORTS DCLS’ WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY MORNING TEA & CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

Uncategorized

In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAA), the Darwin Community Legal Service (DCLS) organised a morning tea and campaign launch last June 15 at the Darwin Botanic Gardens Event Centre.

According to elderabuseawarenessday.org.au, WEAA aims to raise awareness and highlight what is deemed to be one of the worse manifestations of ageism and inequality in our society which is elder abuse.  It was officially recognised by the UN General Assembly back in 2011 and annually commemorated globally.

JMJ Disability Services’ participants and staff supported this important event through the kind invitation of DCLS’ Aged and Disability Rights advocate Ramnik Walia.  It was a lovely opportunity to touch base with some of our senior community members and advocates.
